My First Tomatoes
I’ve got tomatoes! Hooray! I just noticed them while I was watering this morning. So far ‘White Currant’, ‘Black Cherry’, ‘Green Grape’, ‘Urbikany’, and ‘Principe Borghese’ have set fruit. Apparently I’m not the only one who has been enjoying all this sunshine!
I’m especially excited for ‘Green Grape’, ‘White Currant’ and ‘Black Cherry’ to ripen so I can make Pasta with Citrusy Tomatoes. It’s so good!

Congrats on your baby tomatoes. I can’t wait for mine to ripen.

I envy you. Btw, you are doing a great job at your garden and portraying it here. I think my gardening attempts have failed this summer. All the plants and very tiny, and they are tuning yellow. Tomatoes are still very small, so are zucchini’s, peas and beans. Last year I had a small plot and grew a decent crop, this time, I expanded and only to find it fail. While I am not giving up. It would be great to hear from you on how I can “fix” my current situation…and it would be fantastic, if you can stop by when passing by Kirkland.
Very disappointed, hard working and a nature admiring gardener,

And I have 3 questions to ask..
1) Did you start everything – veggies and flowers from seeds
2) When did you start them?
3) When did you transplant to the ground?
Thanks,

Awesome! I have fruit set on Siberia, Oregon Spring, Gold Nugget and Stupice…now to get to the right color!
Did harvest my first crookneck squash and cucumber today!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:03 pmYour photos are wonderful! My tomatoes are doing well, I have bambinos(cherry) and plum tomatoes that I have been thinking for a month are on the brink of turning color, but then they just get bigger! I started everything from seed this year, and the plants seem to be doing so much better than last year, although that is probably just because of the great weather.

July 1st, 2009 at 10:07 pmKumar, I’m sure Willi will agree, gardening isn’t so easy sometimes for beginners. Even those who have gardened for a long time may have an occasional rough year. Don’t get discouraged. Keep gardening! Your persistence will pay off.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:15 pmI get thrilled when I see the first sign of tomato blossoms and the first hint of tiny tomatoes. Your pictures are great. Can’t wait to try your Pasta with Citrusy Tomatoes recipe. Yummy!
July 1st, 2009 at 10:17 pmLucky you! It has been raining and raining and raining here… for over a month. I wish the sun would come out! My warm-weather plants could really use it!
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:09 amCongrats! I was shocked that all of my tomatoes are showing their first couple fruits this year. I didn’t do much variety shopping – just whatever was at the local produce mart – but ended up with ‘Early Girl’ (both of which were the last to get fruit except the Roma, ironically), ‘Roma’ , ‘Yellow Pear’, and ‘Sweet Million’. I bought plants this year, but next year will try to work from seed.
I brought my first all-garden salad (except the dressing) into work today – 3 types of lettuce, snap peas, and strawberries.

When I read the title of your post I thought, “How the heck is she harvesting tomatoes already?” Secretly (okay, not so secretly now) relieved that you’re not all that far ahead of me…
