Pallet Potting Bench

palletpottingbench

I found this awesome potting bench made out of recycled pallets on Twitter this morning (via Go Go Green Garden). Love it! So much better than the big jumble of pots and tools that I store in the corner of my vegetable garden.

It looks like it will be sunny this weekend in Seattle! On Saturday, we have a crew of fabulous friends coming over to help us finish up our big new vegetable garden area, so hopefully I’ll have pictures to share next week. I will also be at Molbak’s Spring Celebration Weekend event talking about fun garden projects for kids, garden party ideas, and DIY gifts you can make from the garden. My workshop is at 1:00 on the events stage. I hope you’ll come and learn how to build a sunflower playhouse, make herbal bath salts, and get tips for hosting a seed and plant exchange.

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend!

Too cute! I happen to have a nice new pallet that came with my cinder blocks for a raised vegetable bed. Hmmmm. Possibilities…

Hi, I just found your blog while doing an emergency google search. I have a week and a half old chicks and I just put Aspen bedding in for the first time. I went outside to weed, and when I came back they had eaten almost all of it!! Panicked I did a google search and read it was ok… I found your site in that search, and I’m so glad I did. Can’t wait to become a frequent reader. I write a blog right now about photograph, but I am thinking about starting another one about the chicken and the huge garden I have. We will see. These chicks are taking up so much time I’m not sure I will be able to write the blog. Ha ha. – Blayne

Great way to reduce, reuse, recycle. and have some fun function. I think pallets are often made of strong long lasting materials. Matti

Connie–I hope you got a lot done this weekend!

Gardener on Sherlock Street–I think a new potting bench is in order :)

Ann–Wasn’t the weather so nice? Even with the wind I loved every minute this weekend.

Blayne–Welcome to DigginFood! And congrats on your chicks. I can’t believe my girls are *already* 3 years old. You’ve now learned that chickens will try to eat anything.

Lorie–You should definitely check out the book Sunflower Houses by Sharon Lovejoy. It has tons of great kid-friendly projects, including directions for building a sunflower playhouse.

Denise–Thank you and hello from one chicken mama to another.

Matti–You are totally right, sadly pallets are also often made of tropical hardwoods because they are manufactured in places with that type of wood. I’ve seen some beautiful raised beds and even tables made of wood reclaimed from pallets!
